The Yin TTC takes place at our main Teaching Academy Centre in Fourways or online via Google Meet.
Yes, you need a minimum of 6 months of regular practice prior to applying for the Yin TTC program and you need to be in a generally good state of health.
This course is not suitable for pregnant yogis.
Most studios only offer a 50 hour course at most and they don’t focus that much on the actual teaching aspect.
Our course is a 100 hour certification and covers all the essential elements in detail, from anatomy to the yin asanas and then bringing it all together in a 75 minute class sequence.
We encourage you to bring in your own personal touches and elements while still honouring the principles of the yin style.
You will receive guidance and constructive feedback throughout the course.
Yes, the full training can be completed online. You will still join in the live classes every week so no extra hours are required.
There is also the option to complete the course as self study, all the same assessment criteria will apply.
We have three wonderful teachers who will guide you on your Yin journey. Avril, Therese and Ma Akash are all highly qualified and passionate teachers with many years of teaching experience between them.
Taryn Elise Herselman (Ma Akash) and Avril Chambers will guide you through the fundamental principles of yin and how to design and teach a yin class.
Theresa Moodie will be lecturing anatomy of the joints and ligaments as well as the basic principles of the meridian lines and pressure points.
The 5 additional classes are usually completed in the first month after you are qualified to teach – however you can start as soon as you feel ready to teach!
These five classes can be taught to friends, family members, etc- outside of the course hours.
For serious health conditions or injuries please contact Ma Akash to discuss if we can accommodate you.
We try to be as inclusive as possible so will only not allow you to participate if it is a very serious health condition!
The study material is given at the opening ceremony as well as access to the Google Drive that has additional resources. For online students the material is sent via Postnet.
The maximum group size is 14 students per course.
If you have no previous teaching qualifications you can attend the 100hr Yin, 300hr Hatha foundations course, 20hr trauma informed facilitators training and the 50hr Chakra immersion course.
For qualified yoga teachers this course is a wonderful addition for those looking to upskill. Many students are wanting a calmer, slower paced class to balance their stronger practice.
All the other courses Shakti Academy offers require a minimum 200hr teaching qualification.
The course is registered with Yoga Alliance International (based in India) and you will have the option to register with them at a discounted rate of 200 Euros once you have your certificate from Shakti Yoga Centre.
There are YAI ambassadors and Directors in Europe, New Zealand, Australia, etc that would be able to assist you if you are going to teach abroad.
You will receive a full printed manual that has absolutely everything you need in terms of theory and practical guidance for teaching.
There are two written assignments and one teaching practical where you will apply what you have learnt during the course.
The final exam takes place in the last two weeks of the course. You will teach a 75 minute class to your fellow students with one the facilitators (Ma Akash or Avril) present who will give you full detailed written and oral feedback afterwards.
We will also recommend certain books for those that are interested in studying further but they are not needed for the training.
Yes, you can pay the fees off over a 2-3 month period. Longer terms can be arrange if needed.
