Discovery Health Checks
Gaynor is a Registered Nurse, a health and wellness coach, a holistic nutritionist and an accredited Discovery wellness specialist. I work as an independent provider conducting health checks for Discovery Health members as individuals or I conduct corporate wellness days. My fundamental belief is that prevention is the best cure and education is paramount to prevent illness, promote health and empower individuals.
How the health check is covered:
Members on health plans of schemes administered by Discovery Health are covered for a health check from the Screening and Prevention Benefit. This does not affect your day-to-day benefits or funds in your Medical Savings account.
Therefore there is no cost involved, Discovery health members are eligible to have one to two health checks a year depending on the type of plan they are on and provided that they are done more than 90 days apart. .
A health check takes approximately 25-30 minutes to complete and it is completed digitally on Discovery’s system.
It comprises of:
Digital health and lifestyle questionnaire – this covers medical history, lifestyle, emotional and physical wellbeing.
Blood tests (Finger prick)
Lipogram (Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, Triglycerides)
Glucose
Voluntary HIV testing and counseling
Body Metrics
Height, weight, waist circumference measurement
Body composition-body fat percentage, muscle mass percentage, bone mass percentage
Body Mass Index (BMI)
Blood pressure test
Eye assessment
Posture assessment
Results are discussed and interpreted, lifestyle and health education is given based on the results. A digital individual report is emailed to the client, referrals are made to other health practitioners if necessary and if applicable vitality points are allocated .
It is more than just performing a health check, for me it is a privileged opportunity to build a bridge between health and hope, a way to empower people with the tools to transform their lives. Through health screenings, education and actionable guidance my purpose is to inspire individuals to prevent and reverse lifestyle diseases, to encourage healthy choices by nourishing minds with information, nurturing bodies with good nutrition, encouraging exercise and increased mobility, to advocate strong women over skinny, and to promote rejuvenating sleep. I am here to serve, to offer care, and walk with people on their journey to wellness.
