Overview

The 300-Hour Women’s Wellbeing Yoga Therapy Training is a comprehensive, modular programme designed to equip yoga teachers, therapists, and wellness professionals with specialised skills to support women across all stages of life.
Each module may be completed individually or stacked toward the full 300-hour certification, aligned with Yoga Alliance educational categories and IAYT competency domains.
This training integrates classical yoga, modern therapeutic frameworks, women’s health science, and trauma-informed care, with a strong emphasis on safe application, assessment, and client-centred practice.
The course runs over a 9 month period with 4 months to complete an in depth case study.

Dates: 7th March – 5th December 2026 (weekly classes will run from March until the end of July)
Classes will take place on Mondays and Thursdays from 5:30-8:30pm, and on Saturdays from 10:30am till 1:30pm over a 5 month period and can be attended online via Google Meet or in person at our studio in Fourways.
Fees: R19 950 (can be paid in monthly instalments during the 9 month period R1690 per month). A deposit of R5000.00 secures your placement on the course. There is a 10% discount for full, upfront payments made before the 25th of February 2026 (R1900.00 off the total).

MODULE 1 — Foundations of Women’s Wellbeing & Yoga Therapy
Focus: Core principles of women-centred yoga therapy
Includes:
- Principles and models of yoga therapy
- Women’s health through the yogic and biopsychosocial lens
- Ethical practice, boundaries, and scope of care
- The female life cycle: puberty, fertility, pregnancy, menopause, ageing
- Integrative frameworks (yoga therapy, psychology, lifestyle medicine)
MODULE 2 — Hormonal Health & Women’s Physiology
Focus: Understanding the female body and endocrine system
Includes:
- Female reproductive anatomy & endocrine system
- Menstrual cycle physiology and hormonal rhythms
- Yoga therapy applications for PMS, PCOS, cycle irregularities
- Stress, inflammation, and hormonal dysregulation
- Lifestyle foundations supporting endocrine health

MODULE 3 — Fertility, Pre-Conception & Reproductive Health
Focus: Supporting conception and reproductive wellbeing
Includes:
- Pre-conception yoga & lifestyle practices
- Stress, nervous system regulation & fertility
- Emotional wellbeing & mind-body preparation
- Therapeutic based class sequencing for reproductive support
MODULE 4 — Pregnancy, Birth Preparation & Postnatal Recovery
Focus: Therapeutic yoga through pregnancy and the fourth trimester
Includes:
- Physiological & emotional changes across pregnancy (all trimesters)
- Contraindications, safety & modifications
- Yogic practices for common pregnancy concerns
- Labour preparation: breathwork, movement & relaxation
- Postnatal recovery: pelvic floor, core & nervous system healing
- Emotional wellbeing, bonding & self-care after birth

MODULE 5 — Trauma-Informed Yoga Therapy for Women
Focus: Creating safety, resilience & emotional regulation
Includes:
- Trauma-informed and trauma-sensitive yoga principles
- Polyvagal theory and nervous system regulation
- Supporting anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm
- Language, consent, choice, and safety in practice
- Building resilience and emotional self-regulation
MODULE 6 — Therapeutic Yoga for Women’s Health Conditions
Focus: Yoga therapy for common physical & emotional conditions
Includes:
- Endometriosis, pelvic pain & bladder health
- Chronic pain, back pain, and postural imbalances
- Stress-related and psychosomatic conditions
- Condition-specific sequencing & adaptations
MODULE 7 — Ayurveda & Lifestyle Medicine for Women
Focus: Integrative women’s wellness through Ayurveda
Includes:
- Doshas & women-specific considerations
- Ayurvedic nutrition & lifestyle practices

Theoni Papoutsis – Theoni qualified as an Aromatherapist in 1995 where she started her love for women’s bodies and essential oils.
She is a woman, mother, teacher, birthkeeper, bodyworker, craniosacral therapy, kahuna bodyworker, NLP master practitioner, ceremonialist and pregnancy and moms and babes yoga teacher.

She has had the honour working with women’s bodies and of attending hundreds of births for the last 27 years.
Through the two decades worth of first-hand experience that she has gained by being involved in the world of pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood, she has honed a unique and wide range of expertise that help her to be a compassionate and knowledgeable guide for women during various transitions from wanting to start a family, through pregnancy, birth, motherhood and all the way to menopause.

Course Assessment, Self-study and Coursework:
- Self -study (10 hours a week)
- 2 written assignments
- 2 practical 60-75 minute specialised therapy based classes with a detailed lesson plan (assessed by one of the lecturers)
- Therapy based case study – A 15-20 page written summary of your therapy based classes and the results achieved with your patient
Post course criteria
- You will need to submit an additional 5 lesson plans, which you will be given feedback on and complete 5 teaching pracs (60- 75 minutes). These will be assessed by either one of your pregnant or therapy students. The assessment form must be signed and returned to one of your lecturers for review.

Pre-requisites for Women’s Wellbeing Teacher Training Applicants
• Students applying for this TTC must provide a 200 or 300 hour / level certificate OR
• Applicants should have practiced yoga consistently for at least 2 years prior to the course
• Healthcare professionals (midwives, doulas, etc) are also welcome to register for this course

Certification
300 level certified course accredited with Yoga Alliance International
Theoretical and practical examination will take place throughout the course. Class assignments will also be given.
A minimum of 90% class attendance is required, online or in studio. At the end of the course you will receive a certificate from Shakti Yoga Therapy Centre if all the criteria have been met. After this you can apply with YAI for membership at a discounted rate of 200 Euros.
This course meets all the criteria for the international yoga standards and is fully accredited with Yoga Alliance International.
This YAI Accreditation is not a certification program, rather it is a listing of yoga schools and yoga teachers whose training and experience meets certain minimum international standards as described below. The accreditation listing differentiates three levels of training: a 200-hour level, 300 – hour and 500-hour level.
Minimum Yoga Teacher Standards
The Shakti Yoga Centre TTC standards are in accordance with Yoga Alliance International and the International Yoga Federation (IYF), and similar international yoga bodies.
The 300hrs consists of 160 contact hours and 140 hours of self-study.
There will be both written assignments and two 60- 75 minute teaching practicals (second and third trimester and one health condition (infertility, menopause, etc) to complete. Additional assessments and course hours includes submitting 5 class lesson plans and attending a minimum of 10 pre or post natal classes (signed off by external teachers).

International Accreditation
On completion of the course you will receive a 100 level certificate from Shakti Yoga Therapy Centre (accredited with Yoga Alliance International). Both the course and Shakti Yoga Teaching Academy and Therapy Centre are accredited with Yoga Alliance International (YAI – http://yogaalliance.in/), the ONLY organisation where the yoga teacher certifications are recognised by the government of India. Upon completion of the course, if you wish to do so you will be able to register with YAI for the 300-level teaching certification as an individual teacher, becoming part of their global network of teachers.
